Abstract: The grammatical metaphor in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) expresses the interstratal relationship between semantics and lexicogrammar and serves its functions at the lexical-grammatical, clausal and textual levels. The potentiality of the metaphorical transference of genre that is used in academic field to which is used in literature is explored on the basis of an academic report from a research program on the prisoner marginal discourse, which theoretically expands the scope of grammatical metaphor and practically, breaks the limitation of the popularization of academic findings because of too many technical and academic terms in the academic genre so that both the academic and social efficiency of the research findings can be increased.

Key words: Systemic Functional Linguistics, grammatical metaphor, academic genre, literary genre, prisoner marginal discourse
