Abstract: A Co50Fe2V32Ga16 quaternary Heusler alloy has been fabricated by means of arc-melting approach. The crystal structure, martensitic transformation feature and thermodynamical properties at different hydrostatic pressure of the studied sample have been investigated by using X-ray powder diffractometer, vibrating sample magnetometer and differential scanning calorimeter equipped with high-pressure nitrogen generator. The experimental results indicate that the martensitic transformation near room temperature of this sample occurs at paramagnetic-like state, and there exists a relatively large volume difference between austenitic and martensitic phases. Due to this, when the hydrostatic pressure of 1 kbar is applied, both the isothermal entropy change (ΔST) and the adiabatic temperature change (ΔTad) of the studied sample achieve-21 J/kg K and 2.5 K respectively, which are superior to those previously reported in many barrocaloric materials, performing a potential application prospect for solid-state refrigeration technique.
