Abstract: The attitude and stance in a discourse is crucial to make the discourse an organic whole. Martin and other scholars founded Appraisal Theory, which is mainly used to study the attitude, stance and emotion in a discourse. Aiming to help Ashima's further study, this thesis based on Appraisal Theory analyses the textual function of Ashima translated by Gladys?from the perspectives of evaluation object, types of evaluation, and appraisal location.
