Abstract: Based on data analysis of the newly-introduced loan words (including Chinese words and letter words) listed in Modern Chinese Dictionary (6^th edition), studies found that there are more zero translations while free translation remains the major method. Meanwhile, there is less translation of proper names while more and more new foreign terms are introduced. The dominant free translation method shows how Chinese “meaning” thinking pattern influences the development of translation. The less proper name translation reveals the under-evaluation of cultural acceptance during translation. The zero translation trend, on the other hand, is a warning that the equal cultural cognition opportunity for all could possibly be endangered. The situation of Chinese new loanwords translation is worth more attention. It not only reflects the current situation of our language and culture but also plays a positive role in language and cultural innovation.
