Abstract: Feng Zhi's “snake” is a well-known love poem in the history of Chinese new poetry. The evaluation of this poem focuses on the use of the strange image of “snake” to express the loneliness of love. But the poem cannot be only regarded as a lyric poem about the bitterness of love. Feng Zhi's “snake” is an experimental poem inspired by western literary thoughts, which draws on the eastern and western literary ideas. Instead of expressing the loneliness and anguish of love, it is more a reflection of the bitterness of the times and the common desire of mankind, and the helplessness when the desire is not satisfied. The value of “snake” in literature and aesthetics exceeds in lyric poetry.
