Ethnic exchanges and blending in Eastern Yunnan from pre-Qin to the Southern and Northern Dynasties

Abstract: Historically, Eastern Yunnan was a multi-ethnic area, with dfferent ethnic groups maintaining exchanges, exchanges and blending for a long time forming a unique ethnic blending culture presenting different characteristics in different periods. From the pre-Qin period to the early Western Han Dynasty, the communication and blending mainly happened between the indigenous peoples; after the Han immigrants’ immigration in the middle and late Western Han Dynasty, the indigenous peoples and Han barbarians started to communicate and blend, and the Han culture gradually formed a certain influence in eastern Yunnan; and from the Three Kingdoms to the Western Jin Dynasty During the period, Han immigrants gradually became localized, and the exchanges and integration with ethnic minorities deepened, presenting a culture of “Han and Yi” ethnic integration. During the Eastern Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties, Han people immigrated and became indigenous actively accepting the culture of ethnic minorities, and they inherited the culture of the Han people, and formed the “Cuan culture” with the dual characteristics of the Han culture and the barbarian culture.
