A Case Study of Applying MDA in Analyzing the Discourse in Tiny Times

Abstract: Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA) is, essentially a new theory framework and research method for discourse analysis. Based on Halliday's Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and Visual Grammar, images, sounds, colors and other semiotic resources new media discourseall contnbute to the expression of meaning.In the film pictorial Tiny Times, its words and pictures have ideational, interpersonal and textual functions and indicate representational, interactive and compositional meanings. Accordingly, the film pictorial thereby achieves the best persuasive effect of advertising through constructing a complete discourse of both language and visual signs.
