Analysis of Effect of New Urbanization on Urban-rural Income Gap: An Empirical Study of 12 Western Provinces

Abstract: With the process of urbanization, the absolute income gap of west urban-rural is increasing, while the relative gap presents inverted U-shaped feature. , The internal mechanism between new urbanization and the income gap is ananlyzed based on new urbanization connotation from the aspects of population, industry, space and socio-cultural urbanization. The result reveal that population, industry, and space urbanization has a positive role in the expansion of the income gap between the urban and rural regions and cultural urbanization is inhibiting the expansion of income gap. The urbanization effect on the urban-rural income gap is different due to different stages of urbanization in 12 western provinces. The measures of coordinated development of urban and rural are put forward based on the analysis.
