Abstract: The adsorption ability of Bile salts and cholesterol by water soluble constituents from Sanicula astrantiifolia was studied because of its long medicine and edible history. The results showed that the adsorption capacity for Bile salts by water-soluble constituents was lesser at low concentration, which increased rapidly with the increasing concentration that was slightly?lower than cholestyramine at maximum concentration, and the adsorption capacity for cholesterol was better. The water soluble constituents showed better ability of reducing blood lipids. The security in medicine and edible of Sanicula astrantiifolia was higher, which had potential development value of reducing blood lipids.

Key words: Sanicula Astrantiifolia, water soluble constituents, Bile salt, Cholesterol
