Abstract: During the Qianjia period of the Qing Dynasty, Yin Shanglian, a literati in Kunming, Yunnan Province, wrote more than 300 ancient poems which were collected in Yu’anshan Fangshicao. The poems mainly focused on chanting history and remembering the past, painting scenery and chanting things, and giving rewards and making friends. The poetry style followed that of the Tang Dynasty, advocated Confucianism, admired the Jin style, which was similar to that of Tang poets. The poetry admired Wei and Jin’s style elegantly and charmingly, showing the hero with unrequited, lonely and cold melancholy and sigh, even under the hardships and embarrassment, but still with moral integrity, self-encouragement and a worrying heart about the world. Yin Shanglian was a typical common scholar of Yunnan at that time, and his poems could represent the spirit of Yunnan common people in the Qianjia period.
