Abstract: By adopting the method of documentation, this essay makes a study on the inheritance and development of the ethnic folk sports in Yunnan Province. In order to achieve the goals by the year of 2020, strategies for developing ethnic folk sports have been proposed. It is pointed out that no matter in elementary and middle schools or in colleges, the physical education integrated with ethnic folk sports will be a dominant force in inheriting the ethnic culture of Yunnan Province. Therefore, professional teachers specialized in ethnic sports are in great demand and the development framework that will help maintain the momentum of excavating new sports items and inheriting the old ones is to be constructed. The combination of ethnic folk sports with education will highlight and improve the physical education in Yunnan Province.
