摘要/Abstract

摘要： 《觉醒》中的爱德娜和《纯真年代》中的爱伦属于敢于向父权社会挑战的新女性,她们离开丈夫,谋求经济独立,醉心文学艺术。但两位女性叛逆的原因却不尽相同,在当时的读者当中产生的反应更是相差甚远。本文通过比较分析爱德娜和爱伦反抗父权社会的原因和历程,探讨凯特·肖邦和伊迪丝·华顿两位作家对于女性独立问题认识的异同,以及读者对于女性主义的接受问题。

Abstract: Both Edna in The Awakening and Ellen in The Age of Innocence are new women who dare challenge the patriarchal society. Intoxicated in literature and art, they leave their husbands, strive for economic independence and have an extramarital affair. The reasons for their rebellion are not exactly the same, however. The reactions from the readers at that time are also quite different The similarities and dissimilarities between Kate Chopin and Edith Wharton about the female independence are studied through a comparative analysis of how and why Edna and Ellen rebel against the patriarchal society.
