Research on Targeted Poverty Alleviation in China: Review and Reflection

Abstract: With the academic circle's earnest concern about the targeted poverty alleviation in recent years, there rises lots of research papers rapidly. This paper reflects the current situation and problems of China's poverty alleviation, especially the targeted poverty alleviation, by studying the academic papers on poverty and the change of the number of national social science foundation projects. Based on CNKI periodical and national social science projects, review of the literature of poverty alleviation studies in our country, especially in targeted poverty alleviation study, adopt the method of literature review analyzed especially accurate research present situation and the problems for poverty alleviation. Due to the abundant literature on targeted poverty alleviation, this paper selects six typical research teams as the starting point to summarize the current situation and problems of targeted poverty alleviation in China. The following problems become prominent in existing research as stated below: fragmentation of research findings as a result of the campaign –style study; utilitarianism of research purpose; being unsettled of causal relationship between power restriction and rights poverty and the problem of whether elite capture or capturing elite deserving further exploration. In terms of these problems, Long term field work should be insisted on, basic theory should be emphasized, power should be restricted so as to empower people and the league of communities of interests should be broken so as to alleviate elite capture instead of capturing elite.
