Abstract: The number of international students studying in China exceeded 492,000 in 2018, it is a large number of foreign students. The mental health of international students has become a problem that must be faced by colleges and universities in China. Culture shock is an important factor in inducing students’ mental health problems, and early intervention can effectively prevent the occurrence of mental health problems of international students. This article first analyzed the concept of culture shock, and then summarized the common causes of culture shock on international students studying in China. Finally, it put forward several countermeasures to cope with culture shock on international students, namely, to carry out pre-education for international students, to provide a full range of services for international students, to respect international students’ values and religious beliefs, and to organize rich and colorful extracurricular activities for international students.
