Abstract: Yunnan province is full of a colorful ethnic folk music, with the unique status of artistic creation source to draw. As a landmark of Yunnan contemporary composer, Guan Zhuang has worked hard in the rich soil of folk music in Yunnan through half a century, creating a lot of music works which give the ethnic music images of style and forms diversity. His works involves broad genre and the abundance of themes, which laid a foundation for the contemporary music creation of Yunnan, promoting the development of the contemporary music compositions in Yunnan province. This paper reviews the music concept, music style and music characteristics of Guan Zhuang, and his contribution to the contemporary music of Yunnan through the discussion on his creation process of music.
