Abstract: After the introduction of Christianity to Yunnan, the traditional urban-centered missionary strategy has been seriously challenged, so the church and missionary shifted to the minority areas of Yunnan. In the process of missionary work in ethnic minority areas of Yunnan, the church launched a series of Christian social undertakings, such as education, health care, character creation and the advocacy of new lifestyles, and absorbed a large number of minority believers in a relatively short time. However, Christian missionary activities based on Christian social undertakings as a carrier and means of communication are not smooth sailing, which are often accompanied by disputes and conflicts. The education of characters and a new way of life advocates as the representative of the Christian social undertakings, which promote the dissemination of Christianity in modern Yunnan minority areas, had a positive impact on the improvement of education level and changed the way of life, at the same time, the missionary and colonial intentions also caused the crisis and challenges on the inheritance and development of national unity and Yunnan traditional culture of ethnic minorities.
