Biography and Poetry Achievements of Dai Chun——A Luminary in the Central Yunnan Province

Abstract: During Qing Dynasty, the achievements of Yunnan poetry can never be ignored in the whole Chinese poetry circles of that time. However, its holistic situation has not been reviewed enough and deserves further in-depth study. Dai Chun, a poet of the middle and later stage of Qing Dynasty, gained friendship of most of famous poets at that time. He wrote about 4000 poems with extensive themes all his life. Among them, poetry of Yaji(gatherings for men of letters), a reflection of poets' activities in Kunming, is of the greatest value. In art, Dai Chun learned from the previous poets and became apt at both the ancient and modern poetry. He wrote poems of various styles with sincere emotion. Study on Dai Chun is of great significance for people to learn about the living conditions and association of the poets and the situation of the poetry circles in Yunnan in the middle and later stage of Qing Dynasty.
