Appraise on Tang Geng’s Argumentative Prose

Abstract: Tang Geng was a significant poet in late Song dynasty and an ancient Chinese prose writer. Living in the hard situation when the officials of Yuanyou time were abandoned from the court and learning of Yuanyou time was forbidden and destroyed, Tang Geng inherited and enhanced the theoretical achievements of the Ancient Prose Movement advocated by Ou Yangxiu and Sushi. Prose written by Tang Geng were predominated by argumentation, which is characterized by a great sense of participation, well-organized arguments and high literary spirit.
