Abstract: Artificial intelligence has a subversive impact on the transportation field and promotes the transformation of the transportation system from “mechanical drive” to “intelligent drive” by reconstructing the elements of the transportation system, and innovating the traffic operation logic and reshaping the traffic governance pattern. In the face of autonomous driving, the research on traditional traffic philosophy and social science shows a clear theoretical aphasia and practical disconnection, making it difficult to explain the interaction between multiple subjects in intelligent transportation scenarios with the existing theoretical framework, and making it impossible to provide effective solutions to ethical conflicts and governance dilemmas in technology application. The root cause lies in the failure to clarify the instrumental nature of AI from the perspective of ontology, and the failure to establish an epistemological framework suitable for the AI era. In the era of artificial intelligence,it is necessary for the social science research on transportation philosophy to realize the paradigm transformation from marginal assistance to central guidance, to internalize artificial intelligence technology into the elements of discipline construction, and to build a systematic research system around new dimensions and new paths. This system not only responds to the theoretical challenges in the development of intelligent transportation, but also provides the ethical norms and governance guidelines of “human-machine value alignment” for the implementation of technology, and helps the healthy and sustainable development of intelligent transportation.
